Introducing a limited edition collaboration with MOSCOT

August 12, 2021
To celebrate the launch of our exciting limited edition collaboration with the iconic New York eyewear brand, MOSCOT, Thom and Luke sat down with Chief Design Officer and 5th generation - Zack Moscot.

Can you give us an introduction to MOSCOT? Zack: MOSCOT is my family’s 5 generation eyewear brand.. Since 1915 we have been focused on top quality eyewear and optical expertise. We are born and bred in NYC. My father and I run the business today and are extremely passionate about what we do. How did you discover MOSCOT? Luke: I first came across MOSCOT 10 years ago on a trunk show trip to NYC … I purchased a pair of blonde LEMTOSH framed shades and never looked back… Thom: It was a real surprise discovery for me too. I had seen the huge iconic yellow sign outside the store in Orchard Street, walked in and fell in love with the brand, the style and the quality of craftsmanship. Why is the brand such a great fit for the Thom Sweeney customer? Luke: I think our customer resonates with MOSCOT because we follow the same ethos ….. craftsmanship … authenticity and a timeless style that doesn’t follow fashion…. MOSCOT glasses and Thom Sweeney clothes just work together. When did you first discover Thom Sweeney? Zack: Many years ago in London. I was looking for top quality suiting and menswear with a timeless sensibility and my friends referred me to the shop. Can you tell us a bit more about the BOYCHICK frame? Zack: The BOYCHIK frame is a timeless MOSCOT Original frame. It is a classic square shape with soft edges and includes the MOSCOT iconic diamond-shaped rivet. The special edition for Thom Sweeney includes our exclusive MOSCOT Custom Made Tint™️ lenses in blue. We love the combination of the BOYCHICK frame in Tortoise with the blue lenses. How did you come up with this design? Thom: The BOYCHICK frame has become one of our favourites, it is very versatile. Using the tortoise shell softens it up so you can mix and match with many outfits, and the blue lenses give it an elevated look. What are the key elements to a pair of staple sunglasses? Zack: Comfort and fit are critical to a pair that you can enjoy everyday. This is why MOSCOT offers frames in multiple sizes so one can find the proper fit. We often find that different frame shapes complement different face shapes so it's key to find a style that is right for you and the look you are going for. In addition, it is important you find a style that you feel you can pair with your go-to outfits and typical daily occasions. Thinking about where and when people will wear the sunglasses, what are your favourite outdoor bars or restaurants in London and New York? Luke: Favourite Bars in London for me are Hertford Street, The Connaught, Scarsdale Pub and our own Club room at our London Store called Sol’s . Restaurants in London for me Bar Des Pres, Arts club, Jean George at the Connaught and I love Cecconi's for casual bite and great Atmosphere. Nyc for me Restaurants Polo Bar, Mamos, Carbone, Raouls and Lucali. Bars The Dead Rabbit, Zero Bond, Socialista and again Polo Bar. What is your go-to style? Any style basics you cannot live without? Zack: I'm a man of the classics and keeping things simple. I like working with solids and I wear a lot of denim and sneakers that I can mix and match with all types of tops. I can't live without solid long sleeve t’s and I enjoy pairing a timeless MOSCOT acetate frame with my look as it works for work and into the evening. Favourite sunglass wearing style icon? Thom and Luke: 1. Bob Dylan 2. Paul Newman 3. Miles Davis 4. Steve McQueen 5. Muhammad Ali Final Question - With only 100 pieces available, what is next for the Thom Sweeney and MOSCOT partnership? Thom: The good news is there’s such an amazing archive of work Moscot has assembled over the years, we would love to build on the partnership and create more beautiful pieces for our customers.
